West Indies win toss, opt to bat first in 1st T20I; Tilak Varma and Mukesh Kumar debut for India

West Indies captain Rovman Powell won the toss and elected to bat first in the first T20I of the ongoing five-match T20I series against India at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Thursday, August 3.

India made a number of changes to their playing XI for the opening phase of the series with youngster Tilak Verma getting his first India cap along with pacer Mukesh Kumar.

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the team in the series as he led the Men in Blue in the shortest format since the T20 World Cup last year. Sanju Samson also returned to the opening XI while the pair of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav was preferred over Ravi Bishnoi.

There were rumors of young opener Yashavi Jaiswal earning his much-awaited T20I debut in the game. However, the lefty will have to wait for his chances in the series.

Jaiswal recently made his Test debut for India against the hosts and impressed in his very first appearance in the whites with a brilliant knock of 171 runs.
